Hélène Seiyu Codjo is the most significant European player of the Hijiri Kai school, united around the most prominent player of the second half of the 20th century, Teruhisa Fukuda. T. Fukuda’s unique sound and penetrating expression still inspires audiences and students of the shakuhachi flute all over the world.
Dietmar Ippu Herrige r began his spiritual education at the Icchoken Temple in Hakata, Japan more than thirty years ago. One of the most important lines of the spiritual style of shakuhachi myoan – light and darkness comes from this legendary temple in the north of Kyushu. It was here that Herriger, in addition to his spiritual rank, gained the shakuhachi flute master’s title, entityling him to pass on the heritage of the local musical tradition.
About the lecturers:
Hélène Seiyu Codjo is a prominent French flutist. She plays Japanese shakuhachi and also a wide range of flutes (eg shinobue, quena, dizi, African flutes). She has been teaching shakuhachi for several years. She studied with Teruhisa Fukuda, the founder of the Hijiri Kai School. She currently lives in the Netherlands, where she gives shakuhachi lectures and workshops. She performs all over Europe, both solo and in ensembles with both Japanese and Western instruments.
In Prague, Codjo will lead a shakuhachi workshop according to Tehuris Fukuda for beginners and intermediates.
Dietmar Ippu Herriger is a multi-instrumentalist, teacher of flute, saxophone, clarinet and shakuhachi. Dietmar Ippu Herriger studied art history and musicology in Marburg and the flute at the University of Detmold. In 1988, he moved to Fukuoka, Japan, to learn shakuhachi at the Icchoken Temple. His masters were Iso Genjo Oshu-san and Iso Genmyo Oshu-san. He also became a priest of the Saikoji Temple.
For an individual approach to students this workshop is exclusively for four students. Please specify your experience and reasons for your participation in your application. The difficulty of the songs taught will be determined to suit all participants.
