Study the shakuhachi with the legendary John Kaizan Neptune for three days in Prague. Learn fundaments of shakuhachi embouchure, practice and special techniques, and to play a solo piece “PAST AND PRESENT” 今昔 (“KONJAKU” in Japanese) composed by John Kaizan Neptune. Attend concerts and shakuhachi listening sessions. Meet fellow players.
One workshop – multiple ways to enjoy it!
The shakuhachi intensive John Kaizan Neptune caters to players of all levels. The teaching language is English.
Each morning after guided warm-up and ro-buki with the player of the Kifū-kai, Marek Kimei Matvija, Neptune will explain special and fundamental techniques of the shakuhachi. Ranging from correct embouchure, finger movement, precise meri-kari transitions to various special techniques and practice routines, these classes aim to improve your playing regardless of your school or playing ability.
Afternoons, a small group of students (max 5) will gather to study John’s original composition for solo shakuhachi.
The aim of the workshop is to allow students to develop thorough musical and technical understanding of the piece.
Participants of the afternoon programme will be provided with a music score and recording beforehand expected to be prepared for classes. The afternoon programme is aimed to cater towards beginner-intermediate/intermediate students.
The morning programme can be purchased individually.
You can choose from following options:
Morning sessions are 30 EUR per day.
The afternoon programme (September 6 – 8) is 150 EUR maximum capacity 5 students.
Participation in the entire intensive can be purchased for 200 EUR.
