The Shakuhachi Workshop PASS is the ideal choice for shakuhachi players at the beginner to intermediate level who wish to then navigate the diverse world of shakuhachi music, acquire the most important habits for their development, and master and perfect the basic techniques.
It provides a valuable insight into the many aspects of the shakuhachi including free entry to concerts of ISFP 2025. It doesn’t include festival study groups.
Shakuhachi Workshops
The Shakuhachi Workshops are led by professional players, and are dedicated to participants of beginner to intermediate level.
At ISFP 2025, there will be 22 workshops each 60 minutes long. The workshop topics cover meditation suizen, tone-production, Myōan style, Kinko-ryū, Tōzan-ryū, Icchoken, special techniques, practice routines, music theory, artist presentation. Attending the ISFP workshops is a good way to learn about the variety of genres and styles of shakuhachi. In 2025, John Kaizan Neptune will also introduce an instrument that he deisgned, the Takeda drum. Internationally acclaimed composer Miroslav Srnka will present his new work commissioned by the Shakuhachi 5.
